Newbie question:

In the above circuit, if we increase the speed of the schmitt clock, and use
more outputs from the decade counter into more peak detectors, do we gain
anything at all? Is three stages chosen for simplicity, perfection, best
bang for the buck? Just curious; I really like this circuit.
