LOL! Sorry for laughing Larry, but this is just too funny. Use the 556 all
you wish.

556 = 14 pin dual timer, i.e. dual 555. This chip is common and cheap.

566 = 8 pin function generator. This chip is rare (prices range from $2 to
$20 each).
