[sdiy] 3080 VCO (was: 3038 vco?)

The 566 and 3080 books are both excellent buys from Midwest Analog

http://www.midwest-analog.com/index.html

Click on "products" and then "books."

Even if you don't build any of these circuits, the books have some
interesting tips and circuits in them. The math (when used) is very easy,
and there's some fairly good explanations of simple expo converters and the
like. The 566 chip is starting to get really scarce, but the 3080 OTA can
still be found at places like Mouser and Jameco (Digi-Key no longer carries
it for some odd reason). I don't know about sources for our friends not in
North America.

Still, the books are highly recommended IMHO, especially for
beginner/intermediate or above. Rank beginners will still have fun
breadboarding some of the stuff, but you should know a teeny bit about
electronics to get the most from the books. They're not terribly expensive
(about $8 US each) and have a lot of good info. I'm sure it would be illegal
for anybody to publish the schematics from this book on the net, since this
is current, copyrighted material. Besides that, it would be very uncool
since Thomas Henry put a fair amount of work into the books and deserves to
make some money from them. He seems to be a fairly nice fellow too.

Tim (got a tube full of 566s and is just itching to make noise with them)
