Hi Bob...

synth-diy is FAR from 'over the hill'... the folk
here are alive, well, and pushing the limits of
synthesizer technology.

Your plam sounds like a good one, kits are a good
place to start, and modifying them will give you
real experience.

Do NOT hesitate to ask questions on or off line. I
don't
think anyone on the list is offended by questions.

The only exception might be for those newbies who
start
a project, declare defeat after one day, and quit to
take up flower arranging :^P
