[sdiy] Potentiometers!!

The Xicon pots are carbon. Despite this, they feel pretty good and work
well as well.
The $5 pots I purchase are either plastic or cermet. The last batch I
purchased were the Vishay M248 and M249 types (they differ by the
composition of the resitance element). I purchased 50 of each, I think
they actually ran about $3.5 each.
