Howdy Folks,
I'm Sean Kerrigan,41,and I live in Auckland New Zealand and
have recently got the bug of building analogue synths and I've spent the
last coupla weeks searching out DIY sites and tutorials about synths.I've
been into electronics for about 3.5 years, from scratch, and stuck mainly to
valve amps and guitar effects. My most recent project was a mixer with about
20 odd IC's in it for which I designed all my own PCB's from schematics
found here and there.I've designed my own valve amps from scratch, using
curves and stuff, but thats as far as I go with actual electronic design but
my strength really is in the actual hardware side of things with
fabrication and suchlike...so thats a basic rundown,Oh,except for the fact
I like to build weird musical instruments using old piano
strings, piezo's,home wound pickups and kitchen aluminium along the lines of
zithers and guitarish lines.
So on my searches for tutorials I have yet to find anything about the
actual stuff that goes on between the keys and the CV,gate and trigger
inputs.I've been looking at Midi2CV using PIC's.and know a guy at the local
shop who can help me there at programming the PIC's,but I'd still like to
know more about the actuall arrangements under the keys.I've got an old
farfisa organ lying about and was thinking that might be adapted to CV
control?,though the electronics seem to be RC type stuff of a slightly more
modern type than an old 60's Gulbransen organ I have lying about. So any
tutorial sites or schematics that show the basics of key selection etc
would be most helpful.
Also my only actual synth to date is a Juno 106 with a bad voice and I
was talking to a guy,Fran Muir,a few months back who had said it would be
easy enough to build a discrete DCO/VCF and the idea has grown on me.I
tried to get hold of him recently but found out he'd passed away, which was
kind of a bummer,so I'm wondering if anybody out there might be able to
help me with a schematic.
And though most of your discussion goes in one ear and out the other
without touching the sidea...thats what it was like on the tube amp forums
3 years ago...hopefully it won't take that long this time...and thanks for
having me.Cheers
