Yes, I'm sorry for not being very clear, indeed it's a portable DAT, but
more important is that it isn't my DAT, it's the companys :)

Indeed, the headphones have the remote control input, though I believe it
also could be done via the SPDIF out/input (i.e. the normal sound out/input).
The thing is only that when I'd solder via the headphone-remote-thingy, the
signal will be digitalized first anyhow. So I'd have to understand the code,
which I don't have.

Indeed, I would need some sort of interface, data sheet etc. Your idea about
just adding volts to particular pins on the remote input, and in that way
constructing digital signals isn't such a bad idea actually, it might even work
:)
Though I certainly hope I don't blow the thing up that way.
I'll try some of these ideas. At least thanks for the input so far!
