Partials from a string aren't pure harmonics. Theory says the overtones would be
pure multiples. Strings have has, however so there are many non-harmonic
partials that go into the tone. The purest strings in terms of partials are the
top two stings on a guitar. For the rest, on guitar and bass, the wound strings
have all sorts of effects on the sound.
