There was the third paty SoundProcess O/S for the Mirage, too:
SoundProcess turned the Mirage into a multitimbral synth. It could
receive on more than one channel at a time with different sounds produced on
each channel. There is a fair amount of "fourth party" software available
for SoundProcess, though with SoundProcess no longer available, this doesn't
exactly look like a growing market.
(From http://www.webcom.com/jawknee/Mirage/FAQ.html#7)

It might be a good O/S on a hacked-Mirage-turned-DCO-module, but it may be
hard to find these days. (The SSM2040 of software?)

In the software world, there is "software escrow" to protect customers in
the event that the developers go out of business.
