I was always disappointed that Yamaha never included to capability to apply 
an envelope or LFO or velocity to the frequency of modulating operators (they 
did allow carrier pitch modulation, though).  That's such a bitchen sound -- 
the sweeping of modulator pitch (you can do it manually on a DX7 with the data 
entry slider, but on one operator at a time).  Was it too mathematically 
complex, or too processor-intensive?  Were they worried about people complaining 
about too much stair-stepping noise in the sound?  I wonder, did they ever get 
around to adding this ability on the FS1R?  I don't really have any experience 
with that machine, other than marveling at the unreal factory patches.
