It depends on the load....but in general, the answer is, yes, the bump will 
always be there, loaded, or unloaded.  If you can contrive that the load 
causes current to be sunk from the output to the negative supply rail, then 
there is a chance you won't have the crossover distortion.  If you are 
using split power supplies (i.e. +/- 15 or 12), then the load will normally 
go to ground, in which case, you won't gain this benifit.  It is just 
simpler to add the extra resistor to the negative rail (be it a split power 
supply or single power supply), and not worry about it.
