[sdiy] Matrix 1000/6R opinions and questions

Hello All....

I'm planning on modifying a Matrix 1000 or 6R to be a guitar synth (of
sorts)

I won't use the DCOs... I will get sync pulses direct from the guitar
strings, and
estimate the necessary current values for the waveforms. My early
experiments
show this to be quite possible.

Couple of questions:

What is the more desirable synth ? The Matrix 6R or 1000? The 6R has
two separate
master clocks for DCO... the Matrix 1000 has only one. 6R has
pseudo-stereo outputs
and layers/splits... all useless for me.

The dilema, the Matrix 1000 looks like an easier hack because I'm not
going to need the
DCOs anyway...

~otoh~ I have the 6R in my posession right now. I'd hate to hack up the
more desirable of
the two units. What do you think ???

Question 2: What will a Matrix 6R/1000 do if it goes into a calibrate
routine and is unable
to get any response from its oscillators ??? Will it complain / shut
down etc. It would be easiest
just to disable the DCOs... but if that is going to be a massive
headache I can fake them during
calibrate.
