Recently I picked up an interesting book: "Gitarrenverstaerker
selbstgebaut" (German) by Gerhard Haas.
He took the time and measured the distortion of a standard preamp; with
five different tube brands (but all were ECC83) and three different
source impedances. It's amazing how different the results are.
So if a tube emulation emulates one real circuit perfectly, it may be
very different if another brand of tube was used in the circuit, or
just a different source impedance.
