Since you're going to throw away the old part anyway, clip the leads on the 
old part, but clip them as close as possible to the body of the part.  Then you 
can easily desolder the leads by grabbing them, one at a time, with a pair of 
needle-nose pliers while you heat up the solder side (add a little fresh 
solder to help it come loose).  After you have removed the lead remnants, use 
solder wick and/or a solder sucker to clear out the holes.
