I prefer having the ability to set threshold levels for this type of
conversion, so I would recommend using a comparator.  Go here, see the
schematics for the two and three stage Event Timers.   They'll convert
anything to triggers.

There's a bunch more here than you'll need, but you can see the basic
comparator engine for the conversion to gate and the trannies with the r/c
as a oneshot for the triggers.
