I did a similar thing to Richard to add a line output, though with a
slighty different twist, but it seems to work pretty well:
I tapped the opamp's output at pin 6 with a series 1k resistor and 1
uF (non-polarized) cap (I used a mylar one I had lying around from a
different project). While I haven't checked it with a scope, a friend
of mine more knowledgable in electronics than i said it would block
D.C. and it seems to work. You can wire these in series to a 1/4" or
1/8" jack and ground the jack to the circuit's ground. I also added a
switch to the speaker so I could turn it off.
The real trick with modifying the steim box is getting the thing out
of it's case - I used a long thin piece of metal to crack the glue
around the edges of the box, and then once I modded the thing, I just
glued it back in.
