Hello Bruce, I use and build kraakdozen as well. I love them.

I do use a trafo (an old line trafo 1:4) to crank up the volume,
but more important, to not get hum from my fingers.
Yet, I prefer a speaker and mic on a stand, as it gives a typical
distortion and extra volume and timbre control.

Also, it doesn't look as autistic on stage.
