I don't think anyone is claiming Max/MSP is the ultimate in quasi-analogue 
softsynths. That would be like buying a Moog 55 and complaining it's 
useless at FFTs. ;)

Csound has a band-limited vco. Good bandlimiting is actually quite 
time-consuming and processor intensive, so it's not likely to become 
widespread for a while yet.
