OS Wars, huh? OK, I'll bite...
I like Linux a lot. My little iBook dual-boots OS X and Debian. In
fact, there's the "Fink" project over at SourceForge that lets X users
install Linux software using the .deb package manager from Debian. And
I have to say that there's a hell of a lot of great engineering tools
for Linux, especially for microcontrollers and PCB design.
OTOH, have you ever tried to find something like Digital Performer for
Linux? And audio hardware support is pretty dodgy; that's not the
fault of the Linux people, but the manufacturers who won't divulge
enough info for drivers to be written.
As the kids say, "it's all good".

P.S. In the case of further OS Wars discussion, we should probably
take this off-list, no? It isn't exactly Synth-DIY. Not that I don't
enjoy talking OS Wars. : )
