The biggest problem I've had with the cheap polyethylene I've got is if you
leave, say, an Oscilloscope or large desoldering station or a power supply
on it for more then a day, it starts to sink in.    They tables arnt very
sturdy for long period use.

My favorite suggestion is filing cabinets and a door.  I picked up a pair of
filing cabinets from a thrift store for $20, and a new interior door can be
gotten for about the same or maybe a tad more.
