The Korg SDD-2000 and SDD-3000 delay units make very nice voltage-controlled
samplers (12-bit resolution), although I don't think the CV input has
exponential response. You can, however trigger and play them from a MIDI keyboard,
and they'll follow the pitch of your MIDI controller. I don't imagine that it
would be very difficult to add in an expo converter on their CV input to allow
voly per octave control.

I also use to install a very cool mod in Roland SDE-3000 delay units that
turned them into a triggerable sampler with CV and Gate inputs, and had volt per
octave control. The mod was made by a company in the UK called AES back in
the 1980's. I don't think those guys are still around, though. I still have
one of those units that I never installed in a delay. I installed them in
delays that were owned by many very high-profile recording studios and artists
(including Madonna!).
