[sdiy] So what's the difference between these IC's?

Thank you all! This is very good information to have.

4016/4066 - I *am* actually using these for a sample and hold - the internal 'noisy triangle' sample and hold of the Random Fluctuating Voltage circuit. I imagine, in this case, using one or the other will add a bit more randomness (if you don't know which one is being used) =-D. I could alter the circuit and use an LF398, but having the extra switches in the package makes it possible to do some other stuff I'm interested in...

There are a lot of other cases where Buchla used them for signal switching, guess I ought to stick with the specified device in those cases when I try the circuits out.

4030/4070 - What really surprised me about this is the absolute maximum Vdd of the 4030! I suppose that means if one is running it off of a +15V rail, one is actually stressing the IC too much. Guess I better stick with the 4070 in those apps - I had *no* idea. Obviously I need to read the data sheets more closely.

Paul, the TTL thing - haven't even 'gone there' yet, but I imagine I will some day - thanks for the heads up.

And I thank everyone again for their input.

Cheers,
Scott
