  I used a vapor-phase cooling system (a spare left over from building a
series of environmental test ovens) on a 700Mhz Slot A Athlon 5 years ago.  
It had a variable-psi compressor that was operated in a feedback loop from
a process controller; you set the desired operating temperature (I used
the calibration value of +30C) and it stayed within 0.1C no matter the
load on the CPU.  It used a custom-milled copper block with coolant
charging/bleedout ports and a gasketed cover.  It had 4 RTD probes in to
be read by the PID controller.  Still works great even though that system
is merely a file server now out in the workshop.

  At some point 'normally aspirated' CPUs closed the %gain gap such that 
it really isn't worth the trouble to overclock anymore...those were the 
days...
