As a guitarist who ALWAYS used to put a small carpet under me
on stage... it was for two reasons. One... to reduce the impact loading
on my feet when I tap (stomp) them. This is vital on concrete floors
(and what does your garage or basement have??? :^)
and Two... to elevate my feet about 1/2" so that its easier to hit the
stompbox
pedals.

Now I use two pieces of 1/2" plywood... with rubber drum pads in them.
My feet hurt worse than ever :^P

(but never for insulation... I think shoes would be fine :^)
