Thanks for all the responses guys.
I'm now using this schem for the input driver from the same website:

for the resistor to ground on the negative pin of the op amp, it says
Nominal V
----------------- = R
.028
So wtf is nominal V? 12V?
that gives me 428.6 approx. I assume Ohm, am I doing this right?
I'm still going to use the output from the first schem.
