Hmmm... I'd say "whatever"...
I hear the 'classic' sync sound as being like a very resonant
filter, and a really wide range of sweeps is appropriate...
from very small to very large. I'd make it variable and capable
of the larges sweep you can get. Its sort of like having a VCF that
would sweep only 'so far' open... you'd like to be able to go the
