[sdiy] Modular Patch Notation (MPN)

Nothing that ambitious is or was intended. We just needed a way to notate
patches that didn't take up a lot of space.
BTW, my bad, it was Archimedes who had the "Method of Exhaustion", a
precursor to limit theory, not Aristotle. It's all Greek to me! ;^)
