also note that the lm709 comes in 8pin and 14pin packages... and metal can,
for that matter.  all the same guts, just different pinouts.  datasheets w/
all packages can be found at: http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LM709.html

is my lucky day--the local surplus store had a few of these in the back
room.  cracklebox, here i come!
