Suffixes vary by manufacturer. Who's 082 is this?
Reputable surplus houses (which there are many) are in the business of
staying in business -- passing bunk parts is not their intention. They buy
obsolete inventories from companies who have discontinued the need for a
particular part and even component manufacturers who do the same. They fill
a need in the cycle.
The classic scenario is a company which needs to clear inventory of a
discontinued inventories. Their options are either scrapping them, in which
material reclamation houses will pay them but pennies on the pound for the
tin, copper and other trace materials which can be smelted from the
component leads, or selling them intact to surplus dealers for less than
what they paid for them, but certainly more than the scrapping. With some
devices, ROMS for instance which contain proprietary code (intellectual
property), they HAVE to scrap them - there is no option. Op Amps are
another story and any materials manager worth his weight is going to sell
them to surplus.
On the buying end, sometimes you have few options as well - if you're
looking for a ua726 for instance, a surplus house may be your only hope as
they've been out of manufacturer for years. 082s however are plentiful and
inexpensive right out of the oven. No need to buy these from surplus!
