If you do not tighten the nut too much so that you will damage the
thread in the pot shaft, i think it will work fine.

OK, if some Gorilla turns the knob with excessive force, the pot may become
loose. But with normal use i would think that the connection between then knob
and the pot shaft will be weaker than the "counter nut" at the panel, thus protecting
the pot by slipping.
