[sdiy] Choosing an OTA for VCA

I've just spent a few hours going through the archives and getting
edu-ma-cated on OTAs. Thanks for all the great posts. But now I have
to choose an OTA. My needs are mostly VCA based (adding voltage
control to everything). The CA3280 seems to be the most popular
device , but they're going for $4 a pop at Active. I don't mind
buying a case lot of them to last a lifetime, but the LM13700 is only
68 cents at Mouser. Is the CA3280 really worth it?
On a similar topic, the SSM2164 looks like another good VCA choice.
But I can't seem to find them anywhere. Is it best to avoid the SSM
stuff and stick with OTAs?
