Congrats on your aquisition!!! I envy you.

FWIW, I agree with the Weller WTCPT iron. It's still my iron of choice no
matter what the job (for through-hole, at least). I've used a model with
the temp dial and frankly, I've never found it to be all that useful. I
rarely found it necessary to dial down (or up) the temp once I found a good
setting. You can get tips for the WTCPT iron in (as I recall) 3 different
temps (600, 700, & 800 deg F) and swap them out quite quickly should you
have a job that needs a different setting. The main thing I love about the
WTCPT is that it heats up quickly and (more importantly) maintains that heat
through almost anything that you can throw at it. (that translates to less
problems soldering to ground busses, etc that'll suck the life out of a
lesser iron.)

rd=1 and I only have a crappy pencil iron. The guy from whom I bought my
9700 recommended a Weller WTCPT, but I've also noticed the WES50 which is
temperature controllable via a knob (important?). Also Hakko seems oK. What
stations do you guys use or recommend?
