I *think* that the two wire midi bus is shielded via
copper mesh, that should be connected to the "ring" of
the midi/DIN cable.
Both devices should connect chassis ground to that.
So no potential difference can build up between
two pieces of midi gear in terms of DC.

I do not know if this is done in practise.

I do know that my "Midi-Budy" pedal is powered using
this very mesh and a third wire that is on a DIN pin
that should be not connected in other devices.

All from my head... I hope it is correct.
