That's an excellent trick. I've used it a lot to desolder ICs when I had
home-made pcbs with 1mm holes. A "Nadel Nr. 1" would smoothly
fit into the pcb hole, and had plenty of room inside it's own hole to
fit around the IC pin.
But with smaller holes (0.8mm or even 0.6mm for ICs) this should
be more difficult. I never tried it, though. Are there needles which
are small enough?
