[sdiy] inductor based distortion

Are there distortion circuits based on inductors?
It's something I think about once in a while, but 
haven't done anything about. (typical for me)

Like where an inductor saturates. Or maybe falls 
out of saturation, say it was biased into 
saturation kind of sort of like a mag amp.

Just seems like there may be some interesting 
nonlinear nasties to exploit.
