Y-ellow all and thanks.
I can always rely on you guys to raise an issue that I hadn't
thought of but then go ahead and come up with a solution anyway. :)

I honestly don't know what the MTBF on these pots are. I have no spec
sheet. I was getting them from RS (Radio Spares) and farnells have
basically the same stuff. I simplified things a little but I could also use
those tiny ALPS pots. I'm just not sure I can still get those. And I use to
be able to get a similar thing as a yamaha spare part. But I don't know
about that these days since my ties with Derringers are severed. (Not that
I give a rat's rectum)

In all the apps I've used these trim pots in they have never been subjected
to a high turn count. (If that's the right terminology.) Things like EQs
and noise gate controls. But the idea would be that major knobs such as VCF
cutoff etc could be done with larger, more standard PCB mount pots perhaps
which would also look kinda cool too. Specially if I still can get hold of
yamaha spares because they make these real cute die-cast pots which are
tiny and really cheap for some reason.

I was thinking along the lines of using the pins from something but I
couldn't think what. Now that you come to mention it, I remember I've got
some little test sockets as you describe somewhere. Not many but a few to
look at if I can find them. I had thought about something like using
machine pin IC sockets. Cut the socket up into individual ones and twos and
glue them onto the front panel if necessary. Viva la Hotmelt.

I've actually done that thing with a slab. Only it was for a logic
controller/analyzer I built once. A couple of 8255s running out to the slab
and soldered from underneath. The problem in this case however is that I
don't really want to centralize the thing. I've actually got some
matrix/pin boards if I wanted to do that. I just don't have the right pins
and they're murder on the ol' wallet gland.

But of course there's the time honored method of a bunch of PCB pins and a
soldering iron.

Anyway. Thanks for that people. I've a fair idea what I'm looking for now.

Be absolutely Icebox.
