         Hey!!! I resemble that! :-)

As somebody involved in the hard disk industry, all I can say is,
"Hey, I want my paycheck...buy more hard drives!" (I am currently 5 months
behind in my pay...I will not name the company I work for...but, you
probably never heard of it anyway :-)

As far as drives self destructing...yeah, I have heard of it
happening, but you know, so far, I have never had, at least to my knowledge
any hard failures in hard drives (my first hard drive was a 20 MB jobby for
my atari 1040 ST), and that was a Seagate drive, well known at the time for
self destructing...although, I had the inside scoop....a friend at Seagate
said the secret to life for that drive was to never turn it off. I used it
for five years, sold it, and despite the fact I warned the person who
purchased it, it persisted in turning it off and on...and it died...

Still, with falling hard drive prices, I am amazed that the drive
don't die more than they do, because I know for a fact that the one area
that the drive manufacturers cut the most to keep the price down is testing.

So, help me do my SDIY....upgrade your hard driver...(preferably
with a Maxtor Drive....oppps...did I say Maxtor)(I don't work for Maxtor,
but they are a major customer of the company I work for)....
