[sdiy] About passive ringmods

Some questions that came to my mind recently:
I basically understood the passive ringmodulator (some ge-diodes and two
transformators). The designs I've seen use identical transformers and
germanium diodes.
1. Would it work to use several opamp+diode in a "ideal diode" configuration
instead? My guess is, that this would even improve performance 'cause the
diode-drop is even lower than the GE-diode drop (how about scotty diodes
btw?)
2. What will happen if I use two different transformers (say 1:5 and 1:10)?
Will just one of the two inputs be more sensitive than the other, or will it
not work anymore, be unsymetrical or whatever.
