Thanks.

Isn't it just easier to place the new NiCd battery far from any other component ?

Just a thought...

The current battery is the original one, I had this synth for about 17 years now...

It's supposedly been used only 3 years before I got it ...

No idea. But it makes for a better ending to the story.

Assuming it's a NiCd all you need is one with the same voltage and capacity
rating.

The reason for replacing it with an alkaline or lithium battery is because
catastrophic leakage is much less likely. NiCd's are notorious for this.
They'll work fine as a memory backup for years and then one day... It's
like playing battery roulette. I'm sure a number of other subscribers have
had the same experience with this as I have--probably more--which is why
the general consensus here has always been to NOT use a NiCd. We've been
"burned" too many times before.

That's good, but you have no way of knowing for sure how old the battery
is. If it's the original battery it's not a question of if it will fail but
when. I don't want to scare you but like I said, I've seen what can happen.
This isn't a bad synth--a friend of mine has a similar model. Hate to see
anything happen to it. While you've got it torn apart is a good time to do
something about it. The modification required is minimal, but you'd have to
ask somebody else. I seem to recall a discussion about the merits of
various types of diodes the last time this came up.

This is why you don't see NiCd's being used for memory backup anymore. A
lithium battery will last 5-10 years and then die without harming anything.
