those vans are cool too. i actually got the idea when a few years ago, we
played at a festival in france. there were a lot of 'travellers' and sound
systems there, and one guy literally backed his truck up to the stage,
hooked up the sound and played from inside his van. i never saw exactly what
was in there, but it was some sort of studio with a mixer leaning out the
back doors. it looked like quite a setup.

yes, the vw is a sweet car. infinitely reliable.. we had it serviced and the
garage replaced the distributor cap. they showed it to us: it was the
original one from 1976, ther plastic literally falling apart, it was so
brittle. they were amazed it even still ran, the thing was so old. yet it
always started the 1st time. we bought is in rust-free california and
imported it to holland. owned by older couple, stack of bills, the works.

2 things keep me from putting my studio in it, however, apart from ruining
the 'classic' westfalia pressboard interior:

-the van is my wife's daily driver. apart from what the rattling roads would
do to the equipment, i'd never be able to use my studio when she's at work
-the van is parked on the street here in amsterdam. i wonder how many hours
it would take before someone cleans out the interior..;-(
and somehow i don't think car insurace would cover this.. " well mr.
insuranceman, i was so unsatisfied with current radio stations, i decided to
build my own studio in my car".

but.. imagine showing up at one of those boombox car meetings with a car
with a built in 808..;-)
