Odp: [sdiy] Knob Box Limitations?

If it's proprietary software that you write, why use MIDI at all,
and not, say, RS232. Or even use USB, there are small cheap
USB I/Fs that can be used as COM on user side.
If you really want MIDI, there won't be any limit on knobs count
if you use sysex to transmit their values.

OTOH, 300 knobs may be hard to use. Finding THAT knob might
take a while in the sea of knobs. But otherwise it would look cool.
