I'm using Molex Centi-grid series...

.1" spacing,  male and female pins and latch
housings...
pins are available in gold if you care... good up to
16
positions

(don't know about PCB mount, I'm doind cable mount
with flying leads to the board)

Prototype crimp tool is about $35
