Hi Joe,
I don't personally know the people at Dinsync.com, but I had an issue with
one of their devices as well. I bought their little black box for syncing
the sequencer on my SH-101. It has a dial to adjust desired tempo
(quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes).
The problem is the way they implemented the counter... the first beat
doesn't fall on the first beat of the MIDI clock. It seems that all of the
clock signals are late. I suspect that they are dividing a 24ppqn clock by
6 to derive 16th notes, and further dividing from there. So when you
select 1/4 notes they are shifted by a 1/16th (assuming a 16 beat measure
they fall on beats 2, 6, 10, 14 instead of 1, 5, 9, 13 where you'd expect
them.)
I emailed them and he assured me it was working properly. So, I think they
overlooked a few things in the design stage... One of these days I'm going
to open it up and see what's going on inside. Unfortunately the box is
super-glued shut, and I haven't felt like hacking my way into it yet.
I ended up buying a Blacet MIDI->din sync PIC instead, and am now much
happier (although this isn't going to help your problem). The box from
dinsync.com was cheap ($35 on ebay IIRC), almost the same price as it would
have cost me to make my own... I guess I won't take the "lazy way out" any
more, regardless of the bargain.
