Hi folks,

Sorry for going backwards in the discussion,
but here is an example of what I had in mind
when I mentioned 3D and openGL at the
beginning of this thread.

Imagine sound analysis tools in 3D (freq /
amp / time) producing 3D objects that end
users can manipulate / transform / reshape
in realtime via 3D modeling tools, with the
mouse or even better with a data glove.
Of course, one could transform samples of
real sounds, but also create sounds from
scratch, or shaping the spectrum of a sound,
by sculpting a "block" a virtual clay...

Yes, MetaSynth and AudioSculpt (among
others) have already approached this idea,
but remained 2D.
The above idea is only scratching the surface,
but I have the feeling that combining sound
analysis / resynthesis tools with realtime 3D
modeling tools can open new horizons, or
at least provide fun toys to play with...

Of course, this kind of feature could be
added to a Kyma system, which already
features sophisticated analysis / resynthesis
tools.
But there's enough horsepower on a standard
DSP card and one of those 3D cards to use
the OS of a PC to build the UI...

I guess something similar has already been
tried, at MIT or elsewhere...

JB
