I also think sliders are probably better than rotary controls. I would add
that having a numeric readout next to the slider would be helpful. Also,
some provision for fine adjustment would be nice. A lot of these controls
on VSTi's are rather touchy. I'm not sure, but I think Cubase has something
like this, if you hold "shift" (or something) when moving a knob or slider.
If all hosts have something like this, great. If not, it should be built
into the plugin.

One *big* question about softsynths:  
Why are the GUI's usually so darn small and hard to read? I hate this
aspect of most of them. Why can't we scale the GUI (fonts, controls and
all) to whatever size we need? I would either have to drop my monitor
resolution to 640x480, or use a magnifying glass to read a lot of the fonts
used in these things. Can't we at least have a few alternative "skins" that
are created in different sizes?
