Possibly the idea of voiding a warranty? (If it's covered by one.) There is
also the chance of other damage existing in the computer. If so, what will
you do then? Send it in under warranty, only to be told that you voided the
warranty with your solder job?
It's up to you, but I once got stuck with a brand new defective modem,
because I had opened the cover to look for loose connections or some other
simple problem. (It even had a small rattle sound when shaken.) I'd hate
for you to get stuck with a broken thinkpad.
