[sdiy] Verry OT: soldering within a IBM thinkpad (!)

I have a $3000 thinkpad with a broken backup battery
holder solderjoint. Is there ANYTHING that makes me
NOT want to solder this (verry apparent) broken
solderjoint and send it to service. 

I put this question here because this is a verry
valuable piece of equipment and you're experts (i
believe in you - heeeeeeeelp!).
