It works fine for recording, better yet if you do the mod.
I have used it for almost anything, but they're better for stereo
recordings (ensembles, orchestras, etc). Good yet for drum and
percussion (overheads), woodwinds, ambience, choir, strings (close-miked
or stereo pair), etc. But they're a little noisy, don't expect to do
great classic guitar or harpsichord recordings... :-(
You can use the ECM8000 or your own DIY mics, with modified Panasonic
capsules (you'll have to mod the ECM, it uses off-the-shelf caps).
