Yep, the "mainstream" industry does suck, IMHO. They release dumbed down
instruments that they're pretty sure the masses will buy, and for the most
part, ignore any real innovation. Look at the three main instruments out
there right now. Triton, Motif and Fantom. They're almost exactly alike!
...and, aren't they really just advanced versions of the M1 anyway?
Sheesh.... Don't get me wrong, plenty of folks make fine music with these,
but where's the ground breaking innovation here? I don't think so. I bet
that out of all the above sold, only about 5% of the folks owning them will
ever get beyond the presets either..
So, don't stop designing. If not for anybody else, do it just for yourself.
The response you get from somebody when they hear some of your music and
it's got a very unique sound in it and they ask "what did you use to do
that?" and you get to tell them "built it myself!", is worth any headaches
caused by anybody else.
Make yourself happy. That's what mainly matters. If you make somebody else
happy along the way, more better.
