the only thing i can say is that i'm sure dave went through all this too
back in the days when he was a young pup. as a magazine writer, i can tell
you i don't know of any practices like you describe at sos.. only maybe that
an article is too long and *something* has to be cut out of a review. i've
had that happen too. but not 'hey , let's cut out these features in the
review or otherwise his machine looks too good compared to a roland'.
and hey, you think instrument makers have it bad? look at small indie record
labels.. now thats where things get really nasty..;-)
